The problem is that warming cannot be determined by looking at temperature changes of the air. Temperature changes happen as a result of thermal energy being added or removed and the temperature change depends on the specific heat and mass of the substance being heated or cooled. Air and water have completely different characteristics. If you want proof put your hand in an oven at 200C and you will not be burned. It is because air does not contain much energy. The earth's thermal energy is in the oceans and land masses and that is ignored.
